Through the Eye of a Witness

I was shattered as I watched people across the country suffer, powerless to do anything but stand by. The sense of helplessness was overwhelming. Over the years, I had seen floods and landslides in the country, but this time, it was different, it was massive. Entire communities were swept away in the blink of an eye. People lost everything they had spent their lives building. It was heartbreaking to witness.
People lost not only their homes but the lives they had built for years. The people they called their families, the places they called home. Dashain, the biggest festival of Nepal, is just around the corner, but the Nepalese are striving not to celebrate but merely thriving to survive. In all the chaos, many couldn’t even reach their loved ones or ask for help. The floods had not only destroyed homes but also broken communication lines, leaving people stranded in a silence filled with uncertainty.
To make things worse, many didn’t have the money to buy basic necessities. In a time when banking is supposed to make things easier, the power cuts and electricity outages made it nearly impossible to access funds or even get in touch with anyone. It felt like the country had been cut off from everything.
As I stood there, watching the floodwaters enter into homes from one after another, it was as if lives were being washed away before my eyes. And I, like so many others, was powerless. The sense of helplessness weighed heavily on me, knowing there was nothing I could do but stand there and watch as the destruction unfolded.
Through my eyes, this disaster wasn’t just a flood but it was a wave of loss, grief, and despair.
